Now available, the Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack brings steam-era logging operations to Train Simulator!

Steam, logs, and lumber. It is a combination that made for a captivating and unforgettable style of North American railroading. And now, with the Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack, classic logging and lumber railroading comes to Train Simulator!

The newly released Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack, created by Dovetail Games’ partner programme member Romantic Railroads, brings you the opportunity to transform the popular Clear Creek Narrow Gauge route (available separately) into a steam-era logging line and to take the throttle of iconic Porter-built steam locomotives like those that so often worked on logging railroads across the continent.

Let’s take a look at what is included in the new Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack:

Locomotives:

The Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack brings to Train Simulator three narrow-gauge Porter-built locomotives highly representative of typical North American logging steam power. For nearly a century, from 1866 through 1950, The H. K. Porter Company, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, supplied railroads and industrial companies with diminutive motive power. Over the decades, Porter constructed more than 7,000 locomotives, which were typically small, steam-powered – and almost always, entirely captivating to train-enthusiasts.

Included in this new pack are a Porter saddle-tank 0-4-0T and 0-4-2T, both of which are diminutive but powerful coal-burners. Also included in the Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack is a wood-burning, tender-equipped 2-6-0 “Mogul.” This unique locomotive is a re-creation of the Argent Lumber Company’s locomotive No. 3, which was constructed by Porter in 1905, worked that company’s lumber-hauling operations in South Carolina, and was nicknamed the “Swamp Rat.”

The pack’s steam locomotives include a variety of advanced and interesting operating features, such as operating smoke box doors and stack cleaning caps – and the potential for cylinder damage and even a boiler explosion if not operated properly!

Rolling stock:

To tote logs and lumber, the Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack includes Russel Wheel & Car Company wooden log cars and wooden stake flats (for hauling milled lumber). And the pack also features a wood crew car (caboose).

Logging and Lumber Equipment:

The Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack provides a variety of unique structures perfectly suited to bringing logging railroading to operational life on the Clear Creek Narrow Gauge route. To create a lineside lumber industry, the pack includes an animated saw mill; a pond unloader; a Surry Parker log loader; and a lumber loader.

Locomotive Facilities:

To service the Porter steam locomotives, the pack provides a vintage water tower; coaling station; and sanding tower.

In this comprehensive collection of locomotives, rolling stock, logging equipment, and locomotive servicing facilities, the Clear Creek Log and Lumber Expansion Pack brings the very best of classic, steam-era logging and lumber railroading to Train Simulator! – Gary Dolzall
