New Jersey Transit took advantage of the newly bought Alp-45dps’ they received a while back, and now they have started to appear in the Raritan Valley Line, alongside with the Pl42acs’, which they bought a few years back. The new train is powered by electricity and diesel. This allows the passengers to remain in the train at Newark Penn Station, unlike before, in which passengers had to switch to electrified lines to continue their journey into New York Penn Station. But will the new Alp-45dps’ fully replace the Pl42acs’ just like the Plcs’ replaced the Gp40-2s, and F40-ph CATs?
